On 25 September 1859 Kurier Warszawski (issue 253) published a review of Flis after it premiered at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw:

'Yesterday the Teatr Wielki showed the long-awaited one-act opera with S. Moniuszko's music titled Flis. The success was overwhelming. The audience received the opera with heartfelt satisfaction, which should have been expected given the formidable talent possessed by the author of Halka. The music is lovely, some numbers were repeated by popular demand and applause did not cease until the curtain went down on the performance. Moniuszko himself rehearsed and conducted the opera, and as soon as he appeared in the pit, the crowd welcomed him with thunderous clapping.'
