21 May

On 21 May 1852 Stanisław Moniuszko found himself one day after the premiere of his comic opera Bettly, whose libretto by F. Schober is based on a French text by Scribe and Mélesville. There was confusion surrounding Bettly up until 2018. In November that year, the Warsaw Chamber Opera staged for the first time Moniuszko's early work, Szwajcarska chatka (Swiss Cottage). As musicologist Dr Grzegorz Zieziula showed, initially considered lost, the German-language Cottage is the original version of Bettly written by Moniuszko while he studied in Berlin.
